St Hills Street
Benches from Urban Effects’ ever-popular Liffiton Outdoor Furniture Range have been installed along a section of the Te Tuaiwi Shared Pathway in Whanganui.
Te Tuaiwi (the spine) forms an integral part of the Whanganui District Council’s plan for a safer, more liveable city in which residents can easily walk or cycle to work or school. Designed with safety and accessibility in mind, the three-metre wide shared pathway provides an evenly surfaced, well-lit route for cyclists and pedestrians, including those with mobility aids, across Whanganui City Bridge, through town and past many of the city’s central schools.
As part of the project, the Council upgraded a section of St Hills Street, extending the kerb to accommodate the pathway and installing new traffic signals and seating to create a safer, more attractive pedestrian environment.
Liffiton benches offered a practical and stylish seating solution for the Council and they opted to install a total of eight benches along the shared pathway, providing commuters with ample space and comfort to pause en-route.
