Linklater Reserve

Situated on the rural edge of Palmerston North, Linklater Reserve offers fantastic views over the city to the Tararua Range and an enticing array of activities to draw locals and visitors alike out into the countryside.

Since its re-development by the Palmerston North City Council, the 5.5 hectare Reserve has become a popular destination for families and children, dog owners, and cycling and hiking enthusiasts. The Council has made the most of the Reserve’s natural attractions including a creek, native vegetation and abundant bird life with the construction of a nature trail and walking and cycling tracks. It’s also ensured every visit to the Reserve is an adventure with the inclusion of a swing bridge, playground, bike pump track with jumps and an 80-metre long flying fox!

Through Urban Effects’ partnership with Playground Centre, the Council commissioned the design and installation of the park’s landmark, dual-line flying fox. Playground Centre swings were also supplied for the playground, including the brilliantly inclusive the Kids Expression Swing Seat which enables an adult and a child to swing, facing each other.

In addition to creating an environment for play, the Council wanted to give park-goers every reason to stay, so picnic areas and BBQ facilities, as well as ‘ride n park’ facilities, were included in the Reserve’s design. Urban Effects’ Kiwi Curved Shelter was a natural fit for the nature-themed park. Constructed of treated and sealed timber posts, the shelter’s curved roof reflects the rolling slopes of this expansive green space. While our top performing Urban 1200 Single Electric BBQs enable families, friends and community groups to enjoy a fantastic outdoor cook-up. And in a further nod to the Reserve’s natural curves, the ‘ride n park’ facilities feature the Citistyle Semi Hoop Bike Racks.
