Kai Table

Bringing people together is now even easier at Te Ara Ātea, thanks to the bespoke Kai table taking pride of place in the library and community centre’s outdoor sensory garden.

The exquisite winning design by Rolleston College student Izzy Tinirau-Holt features a tuna (eel) swimming below the mountains and stars, in tribute to her koroua (male elder) who enjoyed hunting at night.

Community groups and families are encouraged to connect, discover, share and learn together around the customised table, featuring specially cut Macrocarpa timber Bazils Beam Benches.

Funded by a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) grant to support interactions and connections between newcomers and communities, the kai table will also be the centre of festivals and celebrations of the district’s heritage and people.
