Churchill Park Lookout, Auckland

Churchill Park in Glendowie, Auckland is a feast for the eyes. The picture-perfect lookout offers visitors 360-degree views over the city to Karaka Bay, Rangitoto Island, Motukorea/Browns Island, Te Naupata/Musick Point and Maungarei/Mount Wellington. Today, Churchill Park is managed as an urban farm but prior to this, it was a golf course with a clubhouse perched atop the park’s highest point. In recent years, the remnants of the golf club building and asphalt driveway have been removed and transformed into a space to be enjoyed by the local community and visitors.

The project, spearheaded by Auckland Council and the Ōrakei Local Board in partnership with the Mana Whenua, has created a spectacular lookout with comfortable seating, pathways and landscaping that celebrates the beauty and history of the area.

The seating, supplied by Urban Effects, was chosen in collaboration with Thomas Consultants who provided the detailed landscape design and AIM Services who completed the on-ground work. Seating from our ultimate Legend Collection, with its curved lines and natural aesthetic, provides a striking complement to the sweeping views. While the range’s smart, modular design enabled a combination of benches with back rests to be configured and arranged to provide the ideal vantage points for park visitors to comfortably sit and take in the scenery from every angle.

The Legend Collection is proudly New Zealand-made. Designed and crafted by Urban Effects at its manufacturing facility in Wanganui, the sustainable features and versatility of the Legend Collection have the power to shape our parks and public spaces to ensure they serve their valuable purpose for the community.
