AgResearch and Massey University Joint Food Science Facility
The AgResearch and Massey University Joint Food Science Facility is New Zealand’s newest and largest agri-food innovation centre.
Named Te Putahi-a-Toi – workplace of food researchers – the facility is located on the university’s Manawatu campus in Palmerston North and houses state-of-the-art offices and laboratories as well small-scale factories where new meat and dairy products are created and tested.
Designed by architecture and urban design firm Warren and Mahoney, the building has been designed to inspire – inside and out. This included attention to how the building sits within the campus’ masterplan and consideration of pedestrian and vehicular access needs and amenities.
Urban Effects’ Box Litter Bins with steel frame and vertical teak timber slats and Metropol Bollards were chosen to complement the building’s contemporary design aesthetic while meeting the practical requirements of staff, students and campus management. The removable bollards feature 3P Technology which enables the bollard to bend or flex (rather than break) on impact, reducing maintenance and replacement costs. Watch a video on how the bollard’s 3P Technology works on the Urban Effects website.
