Opanuku Older Persons Apartment Complex, Auckland

Panuku Development Auckland, the Council-controlled organisation delivering urban regeneration projects across the city, partnered with Ignite Architects and Alaska Construction, to develop a 40-apartment complex for older persons in Henderson.

The village-like complex adopts a new style of living for older persons, with self-contained accommodation and a design which promotes social connection and cohesion. This includes an internal atrium and shared garden which provide communal meeting spaces and ease of movement for people with walking aids, mobility scooters or wheelchairs.

Urban Effects was proud to play a role in this innovative project, providing a range of outdoor furniture which assist in the creation of a supportive, social and active community.

A number of our hardwood seats and table settings have been placed throughout the complex’s outdoor areas, including two of our most popular products from our inclusive and accessible seating range – the Eden Deluxe Seat and Urban Pedestal Table Setting. The straight-backed bench seats were customised to include stainless steel armrests for extra comfort, support and stability, while the table settings are wheelchair accessible.

Our stainless steel Precinct Bike Racks were also installed to provide convenient bike parking for residents, carers and visitors.
