Pure urban class for iconic Canadian landmark

The revamp of one of Vancouver’s most popular public spaces shows how captivating design and furniture can redefine urban areas.

Canada Place is a landmark venue for world-class events in the heart of Vancouver’s waterfront. Its North Point promenade offers visitors a unique place to gather while showcasing Canada’s largest port.

With its breathtaking natural surroundings, the promenade redesign was unveiled for Canada150, a national celebration marking the 150th anniversary of Confederation. Described as a “legacy for the community” the upgrade included distinctive tiling, improved lighting and a new stage.

But the real showpiece is stunning Lorenz seating by leading European designers, Metalco.

Made entirely of reconstituted marble, with an integrated wooden seat, its organic shapes to complement the natural environment and surrounding mountains.

Injecting a sense of relaxed flow, the collection is modular and available in two linear seats, a backrest, a curved element and one ‘Y-shape’ element. This means it can be used in any many different combinations to perfectly match the space, like Canada Place’s promenade.

The resdesigned space also includes a leaf-shaped ‘monolithic bench’ made of high-performance concrete, which can be used singularly or joined together like jigsaw pieces.

The result is a welcoming, comfortable space that encourages people to gather – or simply sit and contemplate the surrounding beauty. It embodies architectural expertise, simple sophistication and incredibly tough, durable materials for the challenging (and often extreme) conditions.

Extremely versatile, Metalco’s products are perfectly suited to New Zealand’s contemporary cities as well as our beautiful local regions.
