Waitara Marine Park
Waitara Marine Park, situated along the scenic coast of the North Island, New Zealand, stands as a testament to community collaboration and dedication. This project aimed to create a vibrant outdoor space that would serve as a hub for recreational activities and gatherings. The park’s development was a long-awaited dream, with planning and procurement beginning over three years ago, and the final touches completed just in time for the start of the 2024 year.
The primary force behind this project was the Te Ara Whakamu community, who actively shaped the park’s design and functionality. Urban Effects played a pivotal role in bringing the group’s vision to life by providing durable, aesthetically pleasing, and functional outdoor solutions tailored to their specific needs.
The heart of the park features four Urban 1200 Single Electric BBQ and two Urban 1900 Double Electric BBQ units, offering robust and reliable cooking stations for families, friends and groups to use. The BBQs boast a stream-lined design, superior temperature control and dramatic power saving features. Known for their efficient and eco-friendly operation, these BBQs encourage outdoor dining and allow shared community facilities while minimising cooking and waiting times.
Complementing the BBQs are two Woodlands Classic Pedestal Table Setting which provide comfortable and accessible seating areas where families can relax and enjoy the coastal surroundings. These tables were crafted with easy wheelchair access in mind. Combined with style and durability, these tables are able to withstand the elements, featuring natural pine slats that blend in with the surrounding environment.
To provide shelter and comfort for visitors, the park is equipped with multiple Akora Shelters, which vary in size (five of them measuring 5m x 5m and another three measuring 6m x 4m). These shelters, with their sleek design and sturdy construction, ensure that the park can be enjoyed in all weather conditions, making it a year-round destination for the community. Fitted with premium Colourbond corrugated iron and powdercoated structural grade aluminium frames, the shelters bring people together and can accommodate groups of various sizes.
The quick turnaround of the final stages of the project in time for peak season showcased the power of community-driven initiatives. Urban Effects was proud to have contributed to this thoughtfully-designed outdoor space that represents the culmination of years of planning and enthusiasm and transforms Waitara Marine Park into a cherished space for recreation and connection.
